What should I pack for Iceland in the summer time?

Iceland’s summer season has begun! Since the first day of summer we’ve had snow, sleet, hail and rain. But the weather is consistently getting better and we’ve also had warm and sunny days so don’t worry. The grass is already green in Reykjavík and if you look closely you´ll see the leaves forming on the trees and bushes.

Things to bring to Iceland

Here are some of the things you need to bring to Iceland:

·          Small backpack. For your drinks, camera etc. when you go on hikes.

·          Car charger for your phone.

·          Sleep mask. Even if you don’t normally use one you should consider bringing one. Imagine lying in bed at midnight and there’s still daylight seeping through the curtains. Very magical but also highly annoying.

You´ll need rain gear if you're walking under Seljalandsfoss

What to wear in Iceland?

The weather in Iceland is like a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re gonna get. Thus, you might be wondering what to pack for your trip to Iceland this summer. We won’t bother listing basic things like underwear and regular clothes. But here’s a list of other essentials:

·          Hiking boots and hiking socks. Walking on hardened lava or rocky terrain in sneakers is tough.

·          Weatherproof hiking pants. If you’re not going to walk around a lot these may not be necessary. But they might save you in miserable weather conditions.

·          Full blown rain gear. If you’re going to walk up to waterfalls like Skógafoss or behind waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss you´ll get wet.

·          A good weatherproof hooded jacket. For the colder days and evenings.

·          A thinner jacket, like fleece or softshell. For the slightly better days and evenings.

·          Shorts and sunglasses. For the awesome, sunny days and long, beautiful midnight sun evenings.

·          Swimwear. Because every small town has a swimming pool. You might also want to visit the Blue lagoon or other geothermal spas around Iceland.

·          Windproof hat and thin gloves. Just in case.

The weather in Iceland is a lottery so you might not need half of these things.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
