Iceland isn’t really like other countries in some ways. So, it’s great to know some practical information before you arrive. Here, we post what we feel are necessary travel information. You’ve all heard rumours, seen memes or an exaggerated version of Iceland and Icelanders in TV shows or movies. We’re here to tell you that not all of it’s real!
When is spring in Iceland? Sometimes it feels like: Never. But that’s not true. It’s in late March until the middle of June.
So, Icelandic. The language that has hardly changed in over 1000 years and is basically Old Norse and looks like someone just wrote something or anything on their keyboard.
So, Iceland is volcanically active. It should not come as a surprise since the Mid-Atlantic ridge goes through the island (and it is coincidentally the only place in the world where you can see the Eurasian and North-American tectonic plates above ground, neat!).
Going to Iceland isn’t like going to, say, the North Pole. But, you still might get snowed in, cold or bored in the darkness.
Please, forgive us. We really wanted to tell you how to walk on ice and not look stupid. But, after extensive research, interviews with cool-walking experts and figure skaters, we’ve learned that it’s simply not possible.
The weather in Iceland can change dramatically from one day to the next, and you can’t rely on long-term forecasts although they give you an idea.
